Make it Last, Tips for Maintaining Your Wood Furniture

Many of us have a piece of furniture made from wood that we love and cherish; it doesn’t matter if it is an antique passed down from generation to generation or if it was a find on an afternoon of garage sale shopping. The trick, is being able to make your wood last, and being able to restore it to its natural luster and glow. The best part is that once you find a quality wood polishing product, it can be very simple to maintain the beauty of your piece of wooden furniture. If you are in the market for a fantastic wood polishing cream check out Textile Armor’s Line of Wood Protection, they also have a great line of protects that help prevent scratching (http://textilearmor.com/wood_care.htm).

It is fairly safe to say that regardless of how careful you are; eventually you will have to deal with some type of stain on your wooden furniture. Wood is an absorbent material therefore things like red wine will soak up fairly easily and stain your wood.

Here we will discuss some tricks to keeping your wood beautiful and well maintained so that you can enjoy it for years to come!

-Water Marks: Uh-oh, someone has just put a water ring on your lovely piece of wood furniture! Don’t worry, most of the time it is the wax and not the wood that is damaged. To fix, put a clean cloth on top of stain and place an iron on a low setting, keep checking until the ring is gone.

-White Marks: If you have white marks on your wooden furniture, make a mixture of cigarette ash and lemon juice; take a clean cloth and gentle rub into the white mark!

-Paint Marks: Try to remove with water, if this doesn’t work use a small putty knife and gently scrape off the paint.

Dust Mites-Are They Really That Bad??

In a recent study, it was found that 54.3% of American tested positive for one or more allergen. With 30 million Americans suffering from asthma, allergies is quickly becoming an issue that most households have to deal with. While there are many things that can be attributed to one’s asthma, we are going to focus on what is in every household, and in every bed. Dust Mites.

Dust Mites feed on human skin flakes and are the most common cause of asthma. And they live in your bed. The average dust mite lives for 19 days and can virtually survive in all climates-no one is safe. Dust Mite’s fecal matter has proven to be particularly dangerous due to the enzymes that help with their digestion; their fecal matter is what leads to red and itchy eyes, sinus and breathing problems.

So you might be asking yourself, how do I get rid of these guys! These little buggars are incredibly difficult to get rid of! Many people believe that simply by washing their sheets with soap and bleach will kill Dust Mites-this is not true. These bugs are virtually undetectable to the eye and can not be killed unless you either heat your mattress to 140 degrees or freeze it entirely. Both of these last options are not really options at all for most of us.

But here is something very simple that you CAN do! It is cheap, easy and it will protect your children and family! Mattress Encasements! Mattress Encasements are the perfect solution to Dust Mites because they are air tight, therefore by sealing off the Dust Mites, they will die. When it comes time to clean your mattress, you can just shake them out and re-seal it! This is widely known as the safest and most effective way to handle Dust Mites. Textile Armor has a complete line of state of the art mattress encasements that are designed to protect you against the harmful bacteria and allergies that these irritating Dust Mites can introduce to your family, check out their website at for more information on how you can put up a barrier between yourself and these bugs!

Who do you share a bed with????

For most of us that answer is simple… We sleep by ourselves or with our spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend… What if I told you that you were wrong…. Dead wrong… You could potentially be sharing your sleeping space with hundreds of very tiny creatures…. Creatures that crawl all over and carry bacteria, germs and can carry disease…

It has been found that bed bugs carry over 28 different types of disease pathogens. These pathogens are mostly limited to being irritating to the skin thus resulting in itching and inflammation around the area of the bite. For images of what bed bug bites look like check this out! http://bedbugcentral.com/bedbugs101/topic.cfm/disease-bite-symptoms

But what can you do to protect yourself???

The answer is simple, mattress encasements.
  • Mattress encasements can be used to as a proactive measure to prevent bed bug infestation
  • Mattress encasement can protect the mattress and serve as a protective barrier and prevent the bed bugs from getting into the mattress and springs
  • Mattress encasements are an excellent way to protect yourself against previously used mattresses
  • Mattress encasements can help control an area that is already invested with bed bugs
If bed bugs are or could potentially be a threat to you or your loved one, it is essential that you be proactive in protecting yourself. Mattress encasements greatly increase the chances of detecting bed bugs at an early stage before full on infestation. Due to the smooth slick surface of the mattress encasement, the bed bugs are exposed, and can easily be detected on the exterior surface-the plastic casing makes it virtually impossible for the bed bugs to penetrate the casing to reach the interior of the mattress.

Textile Armor has an incredible line of Mattress Encasements and protection. In addition to prevention against bed bugs, Textile Armor’s Mattress Encasements protection line also will aid in helping with allergies. Welcome To Textile Armor!

Welcome to our website and our first blog for Textile Armor! My name is Julie Hadduck and I am the writer of this blog. I am so excited to partner with Textile Armor! Originally I am from California and have a Bachelors Degree in Interior Design. When I first met Mike (The owner and CEO of Textile Armor) I was incredible impressed with what a down to earth and good guy he is, he really is just the kind of man that you LIKE doing business with. I was even more impressed with the product line of Textile Armor. Having been a designer in Los Angeles, I have come across many fabric and textile protection products-when I discovered Textile Armor, I was literally blown away.

I believe that as a designer it is my job to be able to recommend with confidence to my clients a product that not only I believe in, but one that the company will also stand behind. I found that with Textile Armor. Their product line ranges from fabric protection to leather protection and even to glass, wood and vinyl protection and cleaner. What I was most impressed with was their warrantee and guarantee. I feel confident recommending their products because I know that their products are not only superior, but that the company stands behind them-there is no risk to me as the designer.

One of the tremendous values that I have found in being able to recommend a fabric protection product like Textile Armor, is that as a designer, it gives my clients a lot more options and choices for fixtures and furniture. They are no longer limited to leather because it is durable for the kids; they are now able to consider lovely fabric couches that previously had never been an option.

As this blog continues, we will discuss varies aspects of furniture care and industry secrets and tips. We truly hope that you will check back every week or so and leave a comment and let us know what you think; your opinion is greatly appreciated and valued!
