Dust Mites-Are They Really That Bad??

In a recent study, it was found that 54.3% of American tested positive for one or more allergen. With 30 million Americans suffering from asthma, allergies is quickly becoming an issue that most households have to deal with. While there are many things that can be attributed to one’s asthma, we are going to focus on what is in every household, and in every bed. Dust Mites.

Dust Mites feed on human skin flakes and are the most common cause of asthma. And they live in your bed. The average dust mite lives for 19 days and can virtually survive in all climates-no one is safe. Dust Mite’s fecal matter has proven to be particularly dangerous due to the enzymes that help with their digestion; their fecal matter is what leads to red and itchy eyes, sinus and breathing problems.

So you might be asking yourself, how do I get rid of these guys! These little buggars are incredibly difficult to get rid of! Many people believe that simply by washing their sheets with soap and bleach will kill Dust Mites-this is not true. These bugs are virtually undetectable to the eye and can not be killed unless you either heat your mattress to 140 degrees or freeze it entirely. Both of these last options are not really options at all for most of us.

But here is something very simple that you CAN do! It is cheap, easy and it will protect your children and family! Mattress Encasements! Mattress Encasements are the perfect solution to Dust Mites because they are air tight, therefore by sealing off the Dust Mites, they will die. When it comes time to clean your mattress, you can just shake them out and re-seal it! This is widely known as the safest and most effective way to handle Dust Mites. Textile Armor has a complete line of state of the art mattress encasements that are designed to protect you against the harmful bacteria and allergies that these irritating Dust Mites can introduce to your family, check out their website at for more information on how you can put up a barrier between yourself and these bugs!
