Organize that Bathroom!

Many of us dread it-and for good reason. The sheer thought of trying to organize our bathroom for most of us fills us with such a sense of dread, that we will do just about anything to avoid it. Here you will find some simple tips to help you clear out the clutter and leave your bathroom feeling more spacious and organized than ever before!

  • Get the junk off the counter! You will be amazed at how much bigger your bathroom looks when you clear off the counter. Unfortunately the counter tends to be an easy landing zone, so over time it can pile up and become visually overwhelming. The worst part is that you may not even realize how much you have on your counter till you take it away.

  • Get small organizational baskets for the cabinet. Organize everything that goes into each basket by category, for example: put all the cold remedies in one basket, put all the ache and pain relievers in another, make-up in another etc.

  • Fold all your towels so that the folded edge is facing out. This creates a much cleaner and much more attractive appearance when you open the cabinet.

  • If you don’t already have one, get yourself a shower caddy to help you organize all the items in your shower. Anything that won’t fit in the caddy, find another home for-don’t let it just pile up in the shower!

Fall Organizing!

Everyone has heard of “spring cleaning”, well here at Textile Armor we are about to invoke a new trend “fall organizing”!! By the time that kids depart for school, chances are your once orderly and neat household has been turned upside down. While it can seem overwhelming, here are a few tips to get you started so that you can be well on your way to having a beautifully organized home for the fall!

Pace Yourself…

Don’t overwhelm yourself by thinking you have to do the whole house in a few days. Write down daily goals-for example, maybe the goal for one afternoon is to clean out one cabinet. Make these goals realistic so that you feel you are successfully meeting them.

Get the Right Supplies…

An artist can’t paint without the proper tools-and you can’t organize without them either! Make a list of what you will need, organizer drawers, baskets, tags for labeling etc. Having the right supplies will add to your space and make the project more enjoyable.

Clear Out the Junk…

A good rule of thumb is that if you haven’t used it in the last 6 months, get rid of it! Also consider the amount of items you have. For example, it may not really be necessary to have 10 sets of sheets for a single bed. To help ease the pain of throwing things out, make piles: things to go to the trash and things that are to be donated.

Label Things…

Having things labeled makes them much easier to identify and get to. Depending on how much you will be labeling, consider getting yourself a label maker. Otherwise, handwritten tags work well!

Create Your Sanctuary…

In our last blog we talked about various ways to redo the headboard to make it more of a visual centerpiece. In this blog we are going to talk about different ways to make your room a relaxing and calming pace to be without breaking the bank!

Pick the color!!!

Many people get stuck on what color to paint their room and for obvious reasons; the hundreds of options of paint swatches can be overwhelming! A simple way to narrow down your options is too simply determine if you are a morning or night person? Simple right? Well, if you are a morning person, consider warm tones for your bedroom, if you are a night person consider cooler colors.

Get the Focal Point Right!!!

The bed is the focal point of any room. Because of this make sure that you have the proper size bed to accommodate the size of the bedroom. For example, if you have a tiny bedroom, it may look a bit off to have a California King Size Bed in the room. However, if you feel that your bed is not the right size for the room, there are ways to visually alter the appearance. If you have a large bed in a small room, consider choosing a bedspread that doesn’t have a pattern. If you want to make your bed appear larger, look for a bedspread with a pattern.

Runway!!!

When rearranging the furniture in your room, make sure that you are creating a clear path on each side of the bed. Standard rule of thumb is that each path should be 24”.

Organization!!!

If your budget allows for it, invest in some special organizational products. These will allow you to de-clutter your room which will make it appear larger!

Get Organized!!

In our last couple of blogs we have talked about ways make your bedroom a more aesthetically pleasing place to be. A large part of having a comfortable room is having a room that is free of clutter and feels organized. In this blog we are going to give you some tips on how to make your room more organized and ultimately create more space!

The most important part is to clear out the mess. No amount of organizing is going to allow you to stuff 20 pounds of potatoes into a 5 pound bag. Keep this concept in mind as you are cleaning and also remind yourself of the age old principle “If you haven’t used it in a year or more-toss it”.

Bookshelves are a great way to display keepsakes while still creating a lot of storage. Organize your books by height, have the tallest books start at one end and allow them to stair step down to the smallest size. Don’t be afraid to break the up pattern, while having some books stair step down, lay smaller books on their side to work as a book end. This breaks up the flow and creates a more overall visually interesting pattern. Magazines are a great thing to keep and reflect back on, but they can also be very unpleasing to look at. Visit your local Target or Walmart and purchase some magazine holders, this will keep them in one space while making them look beautiful!

If your closet is over crowded and you simply can’t clean it out anymore, consider clothing storage bags that shrink when sealed with a vacuum. This will allow you to change your closet by season and store the clothes that are not needed under your bed or in another easy to get to space.

Doll up that headboard!!

The bedroom is where most people spend the majority of their time, but because it is not the “focus” of the home, most bedrooms are in sore need of an update! Over the next few blogs we will be giving you awesome home decorating tips on how to “doll” up your bedroom-but for now, we are going to tackle that headboard!!!

Give it an upholstered feel…

We have all seen those big expensive headboards that are made of thick, plush and heavy upholstery-why not make your own? Head down to your local hardware store and grab some plywood, and a jigsaw. Next, go to your local arts and crafts store; buy heavy batting and the fabric of your choice. Draw out the design you wish to have for your headboard on the top part of the plywood, using the jigsaw, cut out the design. Place the batting over the entire piece of plywood and using a staple gun, hold it in place (make sure that the batting is thick and covers the wood well). Next stretch the fabric tightly over the plywood and staple gun it into place-and you’re done! You now have a custom designed headboard!!!

Keep it simple…

If you want to doll up your headboard but are not in the mood for an elaborate project, never underestimate the power of wooden appliqués and a can of paint. Head down to your local hardware store and take and look and all the wood cutouts, simply choose one, grab some wood glue and a can of paint. Glue the appliqué to the headboard and wait for it to dry, then paint the entire headboard, for added effect once the paint is dry you can take sand paper and sand the edges for a more rustic look!

Creating a GREAT Space on a Limited Budget!

For many of us, the idea of redecorating is simply not an option due to finances. To be realistic, not many of us have an extra ten thousand or more dollars lying around that can be used strictly for the purpose of design. After thinking about delimma, we decided to dedicate our next few blogs to tips on designing on a budget. With these tips, you will be tossing aside design catalogs and heading to the store to get started!

Paint…

It’s all about the paint, for $30-50 dollars a room can be entirely transformed. With a coat of paint, a room can be instantly transformed from stark and cold to a place that is warm and inviting! If you are creative, you can also venture into the world of textured paints! A few sponges or rags will add depth and texture to your walls that you will enjoy for years!

Get Creative!

You don’t have to have a degree in interior design to pull off a professional design look. Grab catalogs or head to your local library and check out design magazines. Make notes of various aspects that you like, even if you can’t afford a $5,000 chandelier, try to find a similar product that gives off the same feeling at Home Depot, Lowes or online.

Bring in the Art!

Art is a fantastic way to bring in a specific element into a room. Head down to your local arts and crafts store and scout out art that incorporates the colors and theme that you are striving for.

Head to the back of the Furniture Store!

If you are looking for new furniture, there is no need to get the brand spanking new couch. Most furniture stores will have a section that is dedicated to returns and slightly damaged furniture or merchandise that is reduced for sale. In the back you can find quite a bargain!

How do you know if you have bed bugs??

Most of us don’t even want to think about this possibility…. The very idea of having something crawling over us while we sleep is quite unpleasant. However, the good news is that if you have bed bugs, at Textile Armor, we can help you get rid of them!

Unfortunately, the only way to be positively certain that you have bed bugs is to actually see a bed bug or an egg, but by then it is too late. A physician will not be able to tell you if you have bed bugs or not by simply examining a bite on your skin. If you are experiencing getting “bit” then consider when and where the bites may possibly be occurring. An example would be if you wake up in the morning with small bug bites that you did not previously have the night before, then there is a good chance. But if you notice that these bits appear after taking your dog for a walk-then that is a different story. If you are suspicious that you may have bed bugs, a clue would be to look for their fecal matter. Yes, we know that it is disgusting, but it is a pretty good indicator. Bed bugs fecal matter can be red in color because of the digested blood, or it will be black after the blood has had a chance to dry out. Bed bugs fecal matter is not flaky and will smear if you attempt to wipe it with a wet cloth.

Another clue that you may have bed bugs are the common symptoms associated with it-aside from the bites. Bed bugs often causes symptoms that are very similar in nature to hay fever-you know, the runny nose, itchy eyes etc. If you think that you have bed bugs, we have a line of products that will help you get rid of these little bugs! Check out our line of mattress protection at http://www.textilearmor.com/mattress_protection.htm.

Toddlers-Love Them, Gotta Potty Train Them!

There are few joys in life that rival the joy of finally believing that your young tot is potty trained. Unfortunately, you have to take the training wheels of the bike at some point!      –Roughly translated, this means that you have to let them sleep in their own bed without a diaper eventually! And for you the parent, this can also translate into nights of wet sheets, an unhappy child and a soiled mattress.

At Textile Armor, we understand some of the frustrations that come with potty training    -because we have done it ourselves! And while every parent has to eventually go through it, there are things that can be done to make it less painful. Having a mattress protector is one of them! It’s one thing to have to wash pajamas and sheets; it is a totally different thing to try to soak urine out of a mattress at 3:00 in the morning. If you are a parent attempting the challenge of potty training, then check out our site for mattress protection at http://www.textilearmor.com/mattress_protection.htm.

Also, if you are a frustrated parent, here are some tips to help you with the potty training!

  • It’s all about the bribe! Use small treats, for example M&M’s to reward your child each time they use the potty!
  • Target Practice! Make a game out of it for your little boy! Throw a few cheerios in the toilet and see if your son can hit them when he goes to the bathroom!
  • Load on the verbal praise!
  • Its okay to lie: One Mom told her child that the poop feeds the fish when he flushes, if he doesn’t poop in the toilet, the fish go hungry! You don’t want the fish to go hungry right??

Animals and Furniture: The Good and the Bad

In the United States, having a pet just seems to complete the “American Dream” of a house, yard, kids and a dog (or cat). With over 63% of Americans owning an animal, little explanation needs to be given as to the reasons why. Many studies have shown that animals can not only reduce health, but also create a social support and other health benefits. However, as much as we love our pets-we all know that they can bring havoc on furniture. And that is why you need to protect your furniture.

The fabric protection line at Textile Armor will put of a first layer of defense between your furniture and your animals. It doesn’t matter if you have dogs or cats, both can soil and destroy furniture and make it look old, dirty and worn far before it’s time. At Textile Armor we have two lines of defense for your fabric. The U.S 2000 Fabric Protection and the U.S QD Fabric Protection are products that can be used on both natural and synthetic fabrics. They are both invisible to the eye and will not alter the texture or appearance of the fabric or furniture in anyway. Both of these products are non-toxic and non-allergenic which makes this an incredibly safe product for both your animals and your children. Both of these products only need to be applied once-as opposed to other products on the market today that require several applications. In addition, the Fabric Protection line at Textile Armor will not only prevent your furniture from stains, but it will also strengthen the fabric making it less resistant to ripping and tearing.

If you are tired of having your furniture look old and worn, give us a call. Our experts will be able to assist you in determining what product will best suit your needs and can arrange for immediate application. If It’s Not Broke, Don’t Fix It!!!

Through the years the mentality has changed about the worth and value of a piece of furniture or appliance. A generation ago, the concept was that you bought it once, and if it broke, it would be repaired. While the current generation is not entirely adhering to this concept, the idea of reducing waste and saving money is important to most people. With the economy being what it is, few people can afford to redecorate or buy new furniture. Because of this it is important to care for existing furniture so that it will look its best until time and finances allow for a new design. Nothing makes a couch look older and rattier than multiple stains, tears and thin spots in the fabric.

In the past, Textile Armor only offered its fabric protection line to clients who had just purchased their furniture. But now we have extended our products to be available to anyone who has a piece of furniture that they would like to preserve. Our fabric protection line will repel stains and reduce the look and feel of everyday wear and tear. Our fabric protection line creates an invisible barrier between your fabric and anything that would like to destroy it. These products are essential to anyone who does a lot of entertaining, has children or pets.

Many people are hesitant to invest in furniture that is not new, however the product line at Textile Armor is incredibly competitive when compared to other products. If you would like more information about how to protect your furniture, please do not hesitate to give us a call!

Are you a designer??

For all you designers, you know the feeling of satisfaction when you finally finish a beautiful room and the client signs off on the project. However, most of us know that the room will never look as beautiful as it did the day that it is completed. Obviously rooms are meant to be enjoyed AND lived in, however depending on the type of furniture used-it may not be able to stand up to the demands of the client’s and their household.

At Textile Armor, our goal is to provide a quality product that will allow people to enjoy their furniture for years to come. Because of this, Textile Armor has developed a unique program specifically for designers. This program allows interior designers to offer an additional service to their clients in the form of “preserving and protecting” their furniture. Through the years, we have partnered with dozens of designers who have then had an opportunity to resell our product line to their clients. This program and partnership has proven to be mutually beneficial.

Partnering with designers not only allows us to expand our base of product, but it also allows designers to offer a unique service to their clients. Essentially, this is a hassle free process for the designer. If the designer recommends Textile Armor to their client, we will deliver the product and in turn as a thank you for the referral give you a percentage of the total job. It is not necessary to stock any product and you do not have to do anything other than refer clients to Textile Armor. If you are a designer and would like to expand the services that you offer clients to include wood, fabric and leather protection, please do not hesitate to give us a call. We look forward to hearing from you!

Pets and Wood?

In our last blog we talked about how Textile Armor could help protect fabric from some of the wear and tear that animals have on fabric furniture. In this blog we will talk about some of the ways that you can better protect your wood future. Dogs, cats, lizards and birds are all common household pets, unfortunately for the home owner, these animals all have nails. These nails can cause permanent damage when an animal comes into close contact with wooden surfaces. Because of this, Textile Armor has designed and developed a complete line of wood protection.

Protect Your Wood!

Textile Armor has developed a three part system that is designed to revive your tired and dried out wood and make it shine! By putting moisture back into the wood it will renew its luster and color.

Cream Polish: This polish will not only give your wood a deep cleaning, but it will restore your wood to its original and natural glow. This polish allows moisture to be put back into the wood and will allow the wood to maintain its color and beauty for years with regular application and care.

Scratch Guard: This product is a must have for anyone who has any type of animal with nails or claws. Scratch Guard creates an invisible barrier between the wood and prevents fine scratches.

Dust Off: Have you ever dusted and then find that the exact same surface that you just dusted a day earlier needs to be dusted again? Dust Off is a product that works by actually repelling dust, this will reduce the time that you spend cleaning and dusting!

If you would like more information about any of our wood protection products, then please visit our website at http://www.textilearmor.com/. We look forward to hearing from you!

Fabric and Pets??

Animals are an incredible joy to the families and individuals who have them. Nothing can be more soothing and bring such a sense of calm and peace after a long day than a dog who is happy to see its owner or a cat who purrs when it is petted. However, despite the joy that animals can bring, they can also have a detrimental impact on furniture. The dirt that is tracked in on their paws and then ground into the fabric furniture can take years off of the traditional lifespan of a couch or chair. In addition, cats can easily snag, scratch or claw furniture and destroy it without meaning to… It is obvious that individuals are not going to forsake the joy of having pets in order to preserve their furniture, but there are things that can be done that will both protect your furniture and allow you the joy of your pets.

For Your Fabric Furniture…

Because Textile Armor understands the wear and tear that animals can cause on furniture, they have designed two products to directly combat this challenge, the U.S QD Fabric Protection and the U.S 2000 Fabric Protection. Both products create an invisible barrier between the fabric and any stains that would penetrate the fabric. What is remarkable about this product is that it is invisible to the eye; these products will in no way alter the appearance or texture of the fabric. Both of these products have been tested against pet bodily fluids and unintentional rips (the type that could be caused by nails) and have withstood all. If you want to make your furniture last and preserve its beauty, then check out our product line for more information!

The Value of Mattress Protector Pads!

In previous blogs we have outlined some of the benefits of mattress protector pads. In this blog we are going to condense all that information so that you can decide if you and your family are in need of the added protection that mattress protector pads offer!

  • Mattress protector pads create an extra layer of protection for your mattress. Because they are waterproof, they are an excellent solution for young children who may not be toilet trained. The urine will not be absorbed by the actual mattress, thus extending the life of the mattress.

  • Mattress protector pads are also an excellent way to protect your mattress should your child or family member vomit in bed. The mattress protector pad will not allow the vomit to penetrate through to the mattress.

  • Mattress protector pads can help elevate allergies, in our past blogs we have discussed the types of allergies and symptoms that dust mites can cause. Mattress protector pads seal in dust mites within the mattress, this prevents the dust mites and their feces from becoming airborne which is what causes allergies.

  • Mattress protector pads add extra comfort to the beds. Mattress protector pads are traditionally made from cotton which creates an extra layer of softness. Mattress protector pads are incredibly easy to maintain in that they can be easily laundered.

Textile Armor has designed and developed a complete line of mattress protection pads. If you would like more information about how to protect your mattress and your family from dust mites and the allergies that can result from not having a mattress protector pad, then please let us know!

The Facts are the Facts….

The simple fact is that if you have dust in your home (and most of us do) then you have Dust Mites. Dust Mites thrive where traffic in your home is most common, take a minute and think about where this may be…. The couch? Perhaps… But the most likely place to find Dust Mites is in your bed. That’s right, the very place where you sleep each night and you very well may have thousands of Dust Mites…

Unfortunately, unlike flies or other pesky insects (Dust Mites are actually an organism but are commonly mistaken for an insect) Dust Mites are not seasonal. That means that for whoever has dust in their house the joy of dealing with them is year round. Many people find that they are highly allergic to the allergies that Dust Mites cause from their feces and shed parts of their body. Typical allergy symptoms include: sneezing, runny nose, asthma, difficulty breathing and skin irritations. Now you must be thinking, fantastic, what on earth can I do to protect my family? Well,” The National Institutes of Health and Mayo Clinic both suggest encasing pillows and mattresses in dust-proof or allergen impermeable covers. To be a successful barrier to dust mites and their waste, the cover should be made of woven fabric and have a pore size smaller than 10 microns” (http://www.dustmitefacts.org/).

At Textile Armor, we understand the battle of Dust Mites and trying to remove them from one’s sleeping environment. That is why we have designed and developed a type of mattress encasement that will protect you against Dust Mites. Don’t live with allergies that you can easily alleviate!

But they are there, eating your dead flesh, and will continue to do so until you find a way to get rid of them…

Most people are not aware that dust mites are one of the major causes of asthma and allergies in America. Populations that are considered especially vulnerable (such as the young and elderly) are more likely to be effected dust mites.

Many people wonder how to tell if they have dust mites, its pretty simple. Most people who have problems with dust mites find that their eyes are swollen and itchy, in addition mites can cause a multitude of health problems such as: hay fever, skin irritation, itchy skin patches, asthma, dark circles, sinus infections, bronchitis and many more. It’s Spring, and Leather Needs Some Cleaning Too!

In our last few blogs we have talked about the importance of protecting not only fabric furniture but also wood furniture. A lot of time people neglect leather which is rather odd considering that most people buy leather because it won’t stain and also because it will last a long time. Traditionally many people think that it can just be wiped down with water and a rag once in awhile and it’s good to go! Nothing could be farther away from the truth. Like wood, leather is a very porous material. It needs to have its moisture replenished and restored. If leather gets to dry, it will crack and at that point it will be beyond repair. In addition, leather has grain and dirt and grim can get caught in the grain of the leather. In order to properly clean the leather, a good cleaner and conditioner is needed to be able to cleanse the leather grain and without drying it out.

Textile Armor understands the need to have superior leather cleaning products and has created a line of leather protection that is not only superior in quality, but does not contain any CFC’s, silicones, is non-toxic and non-allergenic. Textile Armor’s Leather Protector and Conditioner not only protects the leather but is also has anti-drying and anti-cracking properties, it will restore and bring new life into tired leather. Textile Armor’s Leather Cleaner has been specifically designed to remove stains from the top coat of leather. It will also remove other build up that will dull the luster of your leather. The combination of these products will enhance the beauty of your leather and help increase the lifespan of your furniture!

Leather is an investment, and if it is taken care of properly it can last and look beautiful for years and years. If it is not well maintained, then it will look dirty and lack its natural glow. Get the most out of your leather and look into Textile Armor’s complete line of Leather Protection!

Spring Cleaning, Take Care of Your Wood!

In our last blog we talked about the importance of not neglecting fabric furniture during spring cleaning. In this blog we are going to discuss how crucial it is to not only clean, but also how to protect your wood furniture.

Traditionally, spring cleaning entails digging through closets and scrubbing tile floors-but many people neglect the large pieces of furniture that take a beating everyday! Take a moment to think about everything that your coffee table, end table and dinning room table have endured. Most likely your wood furniture has had food/drinks spilled on it; things piled on and slid off, and have suffered anything else that your children and animals have come up with! However, despite everything that wood must withstand, it is expected to not only last, but look beautiful and maintain its luster!

Textile Armor understands the demands that are placed on your wood. Because of this, Textile Armor has developed and created three very different yet unique products meant to enhance the natural glow and luster of your wood as well as help preserve it for years to come!

Wood is a very porous material; because of this it is important to put moisture back into the wood. Textile Armor has developed a Cream Polish that not only puts moisture back into the wood, but it will also restore its natural glow and luster. In contrast to other Cream Polishes, Textile Armors Cream Polish also provides a deep cleaning for all finished wood surfaces.

Many things can ruin the finish of wood. Simply placing a grocery bag on the table and then sliding it off can scratch it! Because of this Textile Armor has designed and developed a product that creates an invisible barrier between the object and your wood surface. The Scratch Guard product will greatly reduce the chance of your wood forever being marred by a horrible scratch!

The third product that Textile Armor has created is a product that repels dust! Think about how many times in a given month you dust… We all know that it takes way to much time! Textile Armor has created a product called Dust Off; Dust Off works by actually repelling dust from your wood furniture!

This spring, don’t neglect your wood! Use the tried and try products from Textile Armor and breathe new life into your old wood furniture!

Spring Cleaning!

It is almost that time of year again! The time of year for that deep down get on your hands and knees and scrub every inch of your house time of year-yes you guessed it! It is almost time for Spring Cleaning!!!

While not many of us actually enjoy the act of deep cleaning our house, the feeling of accomplishment that it brings is something that little else can rival. But, there is a reason that it only happens once per year. How many people really want to dedicate their entire weekend to dirty mop water, cleaning out closets and scrubbing the tile in the bathroom? When the event of Spring Cleaning is done, most likely your house will have never looked better. But what most people neglect to clean or protect is their fabric furniture, mattresses, leather and wood…In this blog as well as over the coming weeks, we will talk about how you can get the most out of your Spring Cleaning!

Take a minute and consider how long you have had your couch, chair or loveseat… A year-more than that perhaps? Now consider how many times you have sat on your furniture, think of everything that could be on the fabric. It is really fair to expect your fabric to look its best without really giving it a fighting chance against stains and everyday wear and tear?

Textile Armor has two lines of fabric protection that can help you not only protect your fabric from everyday wear and tear, but it will also prevent any stains from spillage. The first product is the U.S QD Fabric Protection. This product is a solvent that dries incredibly quickly and can be used on both natural and synthetic fibers. After the initial application, the product will dry within 12 minutes.

The second product is the U.S 2000 Fabric Protection. The main difference between this product and the U.S QD Fabric Protection is that the U.S 2000 is water based. The U.S 2000 Fabric Protection can also be used on both synthetic and natural fibers and will help preserve your furniture for years to come.

With all the money that you have invested in your furniture, isn’t it worth protecting? If you would like more information about the line of furniture protection products please visit http://www.textilearmor.com/ or call 1-877-58Armor.
